Seems I'm
always being asked this kind of stuff on job interviews and whatnot,
so here's some answers:
Why
does it say "Digital Designs" at the top of the page?
Mainly because "Graphic Designer" didn't cut it any more. While I do possess some hand skills, the majority of my illustrations and designs are being created or enhanced in the computer using the software of the profession, plus I also do web designs and animation as well. Digital Designer seemed to fit the bill for my skills, plus it just sounds cool.
Are
you currently working?
Kind of. After parting company with Heritage Auction Galleries, I partnered up with Premier Wines of Plano part-time. Premier is fabulous - great location, great facilities, great people and a lot of fun - please come check us out. Anyhoo, after creating Premier's website and updating their business cards and printed materials, I got a call from the Creative Group asking me to come in for an interview and skills test - been with them ever since. My handlers at Creative are great, I have nothing but good things to say about them and Creative Group as a whole. I do pick up freelance jobs on my own sans Creative, but I prefer to work through them (you should dance with the one who brung ya, I was always taught). And just so's there's no confusion, I'm back in school to earn my Bachlor's, so sometimes my time belongs to classwork.
Why did you leave your last job?
Wasn't up to me, and quite honestly, I wasn't told why my services were no longer needed, which is par for the course at that particular employer. Good news was I was more than ready to go, so it didn't exactly hurt my feelings being sent home. My former boss is still a darlin' woman, so no hard feelings.
UPDATE: Yeah, she's still a darlin' woman, but she's being darlin' from home these days. The Powers That Be cut her loose with the same amount of explanation that I got. Her replacement is yet another darlin' woman for whom I'm freelancing from time to time, so I assume she has good things to say about me. Weird to be walking the halls after eight months as persona non grata, but hey, it beats digging ditches (trust me, I know).
What
do you offer that every other design professional doesn't?
That would depend on the design professional. Most designers have no prepress experience, most production artist have no design skills, and most designers and production artists have no web experience. I have all three, plus the maturity and seasoning that come from dealing with weekly and daily deadlines for over a decade. I work just as well alone as I do in a team setting, I have excellent written and verbal skills, and I'm comfortable handling customer service calls as well as dealing with outside vendors. I am the total package. I'm humble, too.
What's
the deal with the spider, anyway?
Actually,
it started out as a joke. Anyone who has known me for any extended
period of time knows I'm deathly afraid of spiders and always
have been. Creating a logo with a spider in it seemed like a pretty
silly idea, so I did. Now I've grown attached to the logo and
have used it on my business cards and letterhead for the last
10 years or so.
